Water Mint -mentha aquatica–grows in many wet places such as stream, and pond sides, wet woods, marshes and fens. Plants can be grown in sun or shade and are ideal for a garden pond edge or bog garden where they will attract a wide range of insect life such as bees, butterflies, and damselflies. Water Mint is a low growing plant with pleasantly scented leaves and pink flowers from July to September. It looks best growing amongst other wetland plants with similar flowering times for example Common Fleabane, Marsh Bird’s foot trefoil, Purple loosestrife, Hemp agrimony, Gypsywort and Water Plantain.

  • How to grow Water Mint Seeds
    Water Mint seeds should be sown thinly in autumn, either outside, where they are to flower, or in seed tray. Trays should be left outside over winter and covered with a sheet of glass or left in a cold frame. The soil or compost should not be allowed to dry out and germination should take place the following spring. Seedlings can be pricked out and grown on, for planting out later in the yea
